Discontinued Louis Vuitton Bags Worth Buying Pre-Owned

Discontinued Louis Vuitton Bags Worth Buying Pre-Owned

Louis Vuitton regularly retires models from its line-up, and some of the bags that disappear become more wanted than ever. For these designs, the pre-owned market is the only place to buy. Here are the discontinued and vintage-only Louis Vuitton bags we think are most worth looking for.

Pochette Accessoires

The small zip-top Pochette is probably the most famous discontinued Louis Vuitton bag. Designed as an accessories pouch, it became an icon worn under the arm, as a clutch or as a crossbody with an added strap. Since it is no longer made, every Pochette on the market today is pre-owned.

Look for: condition of the interior, the strap tab and the lower corners. Read our full Pochette Accessoires buyer's guide or shop the Pochette.

The original Noé

The Noé was created in 1932 to carry bottles of champagne, and its drawstring bucket shape is one of the oldest in Louis Vuitton's history. The classic Noé has since been replaced by the NéoNoé, which has a different interior and details. If you want the original design – in the Petite Noé or the full-size Noé GM – you need to buy vintage.

Look for: the leather drawstring, which can dry out and crack, and the base of the bag. Shop the Louis Vuitton Noé.

Vintage Alma PM

The Alma is still part of Louis Vuitton's range, but vintage Alma PMs from earlier decades are popular for their solid build and the way their vachetta leather has aged into a deep honey colour. A vintage Alma offers the same instantly recognisable shape with a character a new bag does not have.

Look for: the handles and the leather piping along the edges. Shop the Louis Vuitton Alma.

Other discontinued classics

Louis Vuitton has retired many other popular designs over the years, including shoulder bags such as the Looping and the Batignolles, and clutches such as the Eva. They are well worth keeping an eye on in the pre-owned market if you want something less common.

Why discontinued bags are a smart buy

  • Limited supply – no new bags are being made, so the number available can only go down.
  • Proven durability – a bag that has lasted 20 or 30 years in good condition shows how well it was built.
  • Individuality – you are carrying a design that is no longer in every store window.

Authentication is even more important

Popular discontinued models are also popular with counterfeiters. Before buying from a private seller, read our guides on spotting a fake Louis Vuitton and reading date codes.

At The Vintage Gallery, every bag is authenticated and condition-graded by hand before it is listed. Browse our vintage Louis Vuitton collection – ships from Sweden in 1–2 business days, with 14-day returns.
